I was greeted by a moose galloping along Ravine road as I pulled in this morning. This was a chilly one - 35 degrees to start 0715 and 41 degrees at the finish at 1130 with ~35 mph sustained winds on the summit gusting to 50 or so and breezy in some spots through the trees. I opted out of the doing the loop and South Peak and descended back down Gorge Brook trail. The cold and wind exposure was pretty formidable at the summit and visibility was low. Wet and some muddy trails at the lower elevations with snow, mostly a dusting, at the higher el's. All in all a fun and invigorating hike and the snowscape on the summit is nice to see again. |
