A terrific trail with an interesting variety of sights all along the trail - regenerating forest, Louisville Brook cascades and the ledges! The herd path to the actual summit is obvious, but heavily eroded just after it starts climbing steeply above the Attitash Trail. The East Ledge is easy to miss. There was a rotting tree on the south side of the trail at the base of the "rock step" that people are clearly stepping on to help get up that first rock, but no other obvious landmarks. The gravelly stretches on the descent are fairly slippery; trekking poles came in handy.
I combined this with a hike of Potash Mountain. While foliage is past peak, the drive through Bear Notch was still beautiful. |
