| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I returned to my truck this afternoon to find the driver's side window on my truck cap smashed in. I was parked at the northbound Basin lot. It is not clear if this was an attempted theft or vandalism, however "smash and grabs" are far too common in hiker lots. Luckily I did not have anything of value in the bed, only an ice scraper and a pair of old beat up trekking poles which were not taken. Lincoln PD filed it malicious mischief since no theft took place.
Shorter days and with lots less busy criminals have more oppitunites. While this is the first issue I have had in the Whites I am certainly going to think twice about where I park going forward. |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
The crossing on Liberty Spring Trail was a little elevated this afternoon but still a fairly easy rock. I crossed near the upriver blowdown and just had to step on a couple of submerged rocks. |

| Comments: |
Bike path bridges were slick with ice this morning. OBP had some spots of black ice down low and a light dusting of snow as elevation gains. More significant ice starts along the steeper section which was avoidable, but just before and then after the hut there was some flow ice and the spikes went on. A significant ice flow section on the approach to Lafayette that was tricky with beater spikes, having me wish I brought a sharper pair.
Along FRT there was anywhere from a trace to up to an inch of snow with short sections of ice. I chose to keep the spikes on for much of it until back below the trees after Little Haystack. Up Liberty and over to Flume only had had short spots of ice that could be avoided.
Didn't see anyone until I got to Liberty. It was nice running into Twinkle-Toes again for second Friday in a row. |
