Comments
Comments: The trails at lower elevation were generally snow and ice free (although there was patchy thin snow on the mountainsides off-trail), with some wet and muddy areas. From 3,000 feet or so to treeline, the trails themselves were covered in snow and ice much of the time, with some areas icy enough that light traction wouldn't be overkill. Above the trees, the trails were a 3-way mix of snow, ice, and bare rock. My spikes stayed in my backpack the entire hike, needless to say.

The weather was unusually calm and clear for this time of year on the Northern Presis, and I wanted to take full advantage of it. What a day it turned out to be- low winds, crystal clear skies, chilly and cold but not frigid temps, and views for days. So worth dragging my butt out of bed at 3:30 AM.
