What a day for hiking. There was some avoidable ice for about 1/4 to 1/2 mile stretch before Greenleaf Hut. There were two ice patches requiring spikes; a 0.2-0.3 mi stretch from Greenleaf Hut past the pond and at the very start of the Lafayette assent then one very short stretch about 1/10 mile from Lafayette summit. After that, the trails had virtually no ice and were easily traversed. It was a fantastic warm, windless, blue sky walk across the ridge and over to Liberty and Flume. Even the walk along the bike path was quite pleasant with plenty of scenery. |
