Started at 9:30 am. Beautiful clear day in high 30's to start and sun on our backs most of the time made it feel much warmer. Counterclockwise loop. Easy hiking with not a lot of elevation gain until almost 2 miles in. Some mud, but mostly dry trail. Lots of leaves, some slippery. The last half mile or so to the top makes up the elevation gain and this is where you'll scramble on rocks. Dogs did fine with minor assistance. The views on the way up and at the top are worth this trip. Squam in front and Winnipesaukee in the distance. Lunch on top looking at the view. One of our group lost her shoe tread and we repaired it with super glue! Sign posts need a little interpretation after Percival because they don't have pointed arrows confirming the trail for the way down. Saw several groups heading up as we were heading down including one runner. |
