|
| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of parking at the Smarts Brook lot but it was ~70% full by 1 PM. It was a little snowy/icy in the morning but you wouldn't get stuck without snow tires. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Ice - Breakable Crust, Mud - Significant |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All crossings either bridged or minor and easily rock-hoppable |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
About 4-5 blowdowns that are not easy stepovers or duck unders along the Smarts Brook Trail. All are small, less than 1 ft in diameter. None of them are being destructively bypassed by hikers. Brushing on all trails was great. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
Good hike for dogs |

| Comments: |
Once about 3-4 more inches of snow fall, it will be time for snowshoes, but microspikes are still good for now. In the morning, all of the mud on Yellow Jacket and Smarts Brook was frozen, but by the afternoon it had warmed up significantly and there were some deep patches of mud that you don't want to step in. Plenty of stepping stones in most places.
Nice to meet Teal Goat and friend on Jennings. Beautiful clear day with lots of sun :) |
