The gate at Elbow Pond Road was open so I followed it and parked near the kiosk in the Elbow Pond day use area. There was room for about half a dozen cars and was empty at 10:15am & 2:15pm. The road and parking area were both covered with snow and were easy to drive on. |

I had planned to start my hike ~3/4 mile north of Elbow Pond Road where Gaia shows Mt Cilley Road connecting with Rt 118 however I could not find a way to get across Jackman Brook which was a couple feet deep and had no rocks or tree trunks to assist. Heard lots gun shots near Elbow Pond an saw several sets of recent footprints in the snow but did not see anyone on the trails. I started my bushwhack at 1800' SW of Grandview Mt about 500' past the large junction with a trail marked with a sign for snowmobile trail 156E. |
