| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked on Ravine Lodge Road - lots of vehicles mid afternoon. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Standing/Running Water on Trail |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
On open trails, bridged. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few deadfall blowdowns on Carriage Road between Hurricane and Snapper trails. Short section of Gorge Brook Trail (between bridges) appears to have partially washed out in the recent storm, leaving a narrow footbed. Irene could finish off that section. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Abandoned trail may not be a good route for most dogs due to loose rock. |
|
| Bugs: |
Minimal |
|
| Lost and Found: |
A single gaitor hanging in a tree along the parking portion of Ravine Lodge Road. |

| Comments: |
Gorge Brook was generally dry and in good shape.
Abandoned Gorge Brook Slide Trail took a little bushwhacking to locate. Some wet slabs on the lower portion of it. Had to manuever around the slide a bit (above slabs, it was similar to the Owl's Head slide - somewhat loose, with growth starting to overtake it in places). At top of slide, path to Carriage Road easy to follow and sneaks onto Carriage Road as a waterbar.
Carriage Road was generally dry with a few short muddy areas, as well as a short area of running water between water bars. Would not recommend this route in wet, slippery, or icy conditions.
Hurricane Trail from Carriage Road to Gorge Brook had a generally good footbed and signs of recent work (bog bridges, waterbars, erosion control, rock stairway). |
