A few inches of fresh powder on both trails with ice underneath. Micro spikes were adequate although I wish mine were a little sharper! Trail was a little more worn coming down making it more slippery because about 10 people came up in pairs after me. Made for a fast descent! Because the hike is short I chose to walk the Flume Gorge Loop Trail after which was beautiful. The gorge itself is closed to hikers, however, you still get great views of it from the Rim Path above. Liberty Gorge, the two covered bridges, and the Pool were also beautiful. A lot packed into a little over two miles! Think I enjoyed the Flume Gorge Loop more than the summit of Pemigewasset! Had to climb the mountain again though because when I did it two years ago I was totally socked in with clouds and fog. Today was a bit cloudy but still had a nice view of Mts. Wolf, Liberty and Flume among others. |
