| Comments: |
At lower elevations, a mix of bare rock and very slippery ice -- the ice made the many steep stretches pretty slow going, especially downhill. Along and near the Franconia Ridge, there were several areas of snow with lots of postholes; in places the snow was fairly soft. Regretted not having poles for the long descent down Liberty Spring Tr. Still, it wasn't too cold and there was almost no wind, and while overcast, visibility was great until the snow started around 1p. Almost no wind except a breeze near the Mt Lafayette summit. Took me about 8 hrs total travel time. I expect the snowfall that began midday and continued overnight will change conditions substantially. |
