About 6 to 8" of fresh powder (not overly light/fluffy) from last night's storm. Upper mountain had an ice/frozen granular base underneath. Though Tenney is not operating commercially, the trails remain open for backcountry skiing/snowshoeing. Trails have not been mowed in a few years, so there is a lot of brush sticking up (and plenty of rocks lurking underneath). Will take a few feet of snowpack to cover things up for skiing (and some cold weather to freeze up the still-running waterbars). Good snowshoeing though.
A little less snow in the woods up top (closer to 2 to 4") in part due to wind. Wind turbines were whipping. Noted a jar recently hung at the true summit.
We wore snowshoes roundtrip. Upper mountain would have been tedious in Microspikes (would not have gripped the ice underneath) and bad etiquette.
Windy morning with occasionally partly sunny skies. A few skiers heading out early this afternoon.
Support liberty. |
