First two on the trail this morning. 1" of fresh snow over a well-packed trail. Smooth sailing 90% of the way, with just a few bare and icy patches near the summit. We put spikes on about 3/4 of the way up as there were some rocky sections with thin snow over ice. A few bare patches on the rocks around the summit. Breezy and socked in at the south summit. We continued to the north summit, the trail was packed down with 1" fresh snow over the top. We wore our spikes to the north summit, there are a few bare rocks but nothing major. There were a few small snow drifts on the north peak. Still socked in on the north summit but minimal wind. Had a nice lunch up there then headed back down. Met two hikers at the south summit. The rocks were a little slick going down but not too bad. Clear views from lower ledges and the little "window" in the trees. We ran into a few families and dogs on the lower section of the trail. After that traffic trail should be well packed until next the snow fall. Beautiful snowy day even if there were no summit views! |
