 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The parking area was plowed and I grabbed the last (probably recently abandoned) parking spot at 1pm |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Spring Snow, Slush |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
There were 6+ water crossings. Only one of them had a stable snowbridge. The rest were careful rock hopping. Closer to Nancy Pond, there were a number of small stream crossings with slippery log crossings that were difficult to keep your feet out of the water. |

The first few miles were very packed down, which lulled me into a false sense of the trail. But after the cascade, only me and 2 other people had decided to adventure higher. They both had snowshoes and I regretted leaving mine behind a few times, as I navigated the narrow icy and then the marshy and wet sections leading up towards the ponds. I ran into one of the other hikers by the first pond. It was a nice hike to the top of Nancy, with a few steep sections but they were easy enough to descend. The herdpath is in good shape and easy to follow. The trip back in the dark was a little damp; with so many unstable water crossings, I managed to dunk my foot once and it was very slushy. But overall, it was a good time. |
