There was a group that broke out this peak on Tuesday so we had to take advantage of it. The route we took is far from direct as it took 7.5 miles as an out and back, but we had a broken out route, a nice ridge without any significant steep climbs/drops, and open hardwoods and semi open hardwoods which combined for dream winter peakbagging conditions. We could have taken a much shorter route similar to the one taken by our friends Liam and Alysia a month ago but decided to trade more mileage for an easier broken out route with open woods. Took Livermore trail most of the way up to the pass and turned uphill by the small marsh 0.1mi north of the pass. We headed up the SE shoulder of the SE knob where we attained the ridge, this entire climb was open hardwoods. We ended up doing a circle around that added some mileage after summiting the knob and trying to avoid getting sucked into a thick, gnarly spruce patch on the N side of the knob. We ended up circling around the SW to W side of the knob avoiding the thicket and dropped into a shallow col and followed the ridge angling NW to the summit where we quickly found the canister. Its in great shape and has a dry logbook with a pencil. Trail was already getting pretty slushy down low on the trip out |
