An amazing day to be on the Osceolas despite the cold. Greeley pond trail is in outstanding shape and very fast going. The fast climb continues until the 2 mile mark. Keep an eye out for a fun little surprise right at the 2 mile mark! The climb to the ridge is icy and can be tricky in some spots. Kahtoola microspikes will get the job done, but there were spots where heavy duty crampons and an ice axe would have been nice. Today's traffic and a decent amount of butt sledding might cover up some of the ice well though.
Once on the ridge it's fast going, but there are a few ankle biting post holes in shadier spots. The chimney bypass was challenging going up and more challenging coming down.
The view from Osceola was absolutely perfect. Blue skies, a slight breeze and hardly a cloud in the sky. Even better - no one was up there while I was!
Overall, bring spikes and heavy duty crampons if you have them. Snowshoes won't be needed until the next big storm. |
