 | Comments: |
The remains of the recent slush-fest have frozen solid, and the several inches of new snow received since then have been thoroughly booted in to make a smooth and very fast trail. The compacted top coat was wet down low, but changed to frozen granular above 3000'. I started out with micro-spikes, but they began to ball up badly starting at 1.5 miles. Switching to crampons with anti-balling plates solved that problem, and the crampons stayed on for the remainder of the hike. The weather could have been better, with some form of precipitation most of the day. It started out as freezing rain, gradually turned to sleet, and finally becoming mostly fine snow and hail. |
