| Comments: |
The trail to the col showed evidence of recent travel, which made for little initial breaking effort. Snowshoes were best on the way up, but it was bony in places. Some hidden blue ice to watch out for. No recent travel was evident on the way up to the south peak, which required us to put in some minor breaking effort through drifts and deeper snow. The North Percy cone was well covered in snow and blue ice. We both snowshoed up; to descend, Amy did well in Tubbs Flex Alps, but I felt better switching my MSR shoes out for crampons. We actually kept our snowshoe off for much of the trip down as the steep sections were too bony for us to want to negotiate descent in snowshoes. |
