Ended up a nice hike of these two peaks but took substantially longer than planned.Trails were unbroken with between 9-11" of fresh powder with many drifts much deeper (knee deep+) throughout. Mt Osceola Trail was difficult to follow in a few spots at lower levels due to drifting but managed to stay on trail for most part. The first steep slab incline on on Mt Osceola trail(slide is to left of trail at this point) is extremely snow loaded right now and opted to go off trail for this section. Snow totals seemed slightly less between E Osceola and Osceola but still substantial drifting and side slabbing.Took the bypass on the way up and bypass of the bypass on the way back.met just one other hiker out today on the return from Osceola summit. These trails are rough broke now but did notice tracks in spots were being drifted over. While descending East Osceola i found it helpful to side step down digging snowshoes in with each step. While awkward it prevented any slipping in this section anyway. |
