Bye MicroSpikes conditions - snowshoe season has returned! Unsure of how much new snow fell due to winds and sleet, but I would guess it was between half a foot and a foot. I broke the trail with snowshoes and they floated quite well.
The coniferous forest where immense hemlocks reign were coated with lots of snow. Pure winter beauty! Windy morning with temperatures in the teens. It was a beautiful day for a hike.
Hiked up to upper Fletchers Cascades and the ice are mind blowing! Steep ice scalloped ledges. I was able to get a close up examination of the intricate formations of the icicles being formed in real time. Nearby was another ledgy frozen cascade where I could enter inside of it with the frozen icicles forming a wall to the exterior elements. Nature’s ice castle!
