 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Lot wasn't plowed, only 4-5" new snow but just enough of a snow bank by the road where we didn't feel comfortable chancing it with AWD so we parked just down the road where it was parked wide enough for two cars. |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Unpacked Powder |

 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
All frozen no issues |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One walk around, otherwise no major issues - trail was a bit tricky to follow in a few places above the last snowmobile trail crossing but we found it easily enough - minimal blazing though. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Maddie had a great time - like us she wore multiple layers and didn't get cold as long as we kept moving. No specific hazards for winter-hardy canines. |

 | Comments: |
Second trail breaking hike of the day, another good choice given the temps and winds - 4-6" snow down low increasing to 8-10" in the upper half, a few rocks poking through here and there but overall lovely snowshoeing. We opted to stay on the snowmobile trail after the fork because it was broken out and the trail wasn't - fairly easy going the rest of the way to the summit. Not much of a view up top due to clouds across the way but found the "unmarked spur path" to the view of Stinson lake described in the WMG by finding a few trimmed trees near the entrance. Much easier trail breaking heading down from the summit but some blazing would be helpful in this section in particular as the corridor is narrower and less well defined than on other parts of the trail. Besides a few snowmobiles we had the mountain to ourselves, no other hikers seen - trail is rough broke but far from consolidated, if hiking this in the next several days snowshoes are strongly recommended, anything less would be a struggle and inconsiderate to fellow hikers. Thanks Ali and Maddie for a great day! |
