Comments
Comments: Minus 23 when I started out and it is only a minute or two of walking past the gate before the logging road turns into a groomed snowmobile trail. At the abandoned oil delivery truck I turned right onto an untracked logging road leaving the snowmobile route behind. I did my best to try to remember how I did this peak with Jack from Little back in Oct '16 and I think I nailed it. I left the logging road and entered the woods where it levels out a bit after the big ditch/culvert removal. The old skid road isn't as easy to find because it has a lot of young birch and prickers hiding it. As I climbed towards the col between Teapot and Lightning I kept the drainage well to my right. I mostly stayed on the growing in skid road nearly to the col and then I was in a nice hardwood forest. But this is the steepest part of the day and the deepest snow, a good foot of sugary cold powder, just before reaching the col and the Moose playland, it was hard work. Believe me I found it easy to stay warm breaking this route up. Once at the col I followed moose tracks and tried to stay in mostly open woods as I crept up the ridge to Teapot. I didn't make a very straight line but kept following the path of least resistance and nearly 2.5 hours later I was standing next to the recognized summit. The teapot is long gone but I was happy to see that its handle is still wired to the tree. It only took half the time (1:15) to get back to my car as it did to get to the summit, it was easy to follow my tracks back out and bound down in the soft snow. Lots of Moose tracks and beds from the col up and down below on the untracked logging road lots of deer tracks and bunny tracks.
