Comments
Comments: Great trip out and back on Greenleaf Trail, starting from the northbound Profile turnoff with the short 100 yard bushwhack up to the trail. We were a bit mystified by the one previous hiker on lower Greenleaf who postholed all the way up to Eagle Pass before putting on the snowshoes they had apparently been carrying the whole time. The snow is soft and unconsolidated. We packed it down some (group of 4 snowshoers), but I would still recommended snowshoes from car to treeline (keep them on past the hut until you get to the alpine zone sign). Above treeline, there's enough snow to use snowshoes if you want, but microspikes are the better choice. We got a late start and regretfully turned around at 3pm at 4800 ft despite the absolutely perfect weather and trail conditions.
