Old Mountain Road has been snowmobiled recently (both sides of the ridge), so it's fairly well packed out. This helped to eliminate some recently installed postholes. There are some blue ice bulges, but they can be avoided.
Crawford Ridgepole apparently was the destination for a few postholers over the weekend. It's the trailed equivalent of urinating on a public bathroom toilet seat. With the cold temps, these postholes (or splashes) are now frozen in place, making the trail (toilet) unpleasant for those who follow. Put on the snowshoes (and put up the toilet seat!).
Cold morning with temperatures in the low single digits. Lake looks pretty well frozen at this point. |
