I hiked this Saturday in microspikes only (thought my snowshoes were in the car) and came back for more Sunday. The bushwhack omitting the switchbacks is not great-- the snow isn't packed so vegetation is ripped to shreds and it's very steep for descending. It will soon become a bobsledding ice luge to give Lake Placid a run for it's money. On Sunday and in snowshoes, I broke out the actual trail (blue blazes) and enjoyed the switchbacks and two beautiful viewpoints. Fluffy light champagne powder but a bit boney without a packed base from the junction of the bushwhack. More snow in the forecast! |
