Trails are in pretty great conditions, we worse snowshoes from start to finish, definitely the best choice. There is a solid track all the way to the junction of the cutoff, but as soon as you slightly step off trail you will sink, many of us falling. Champney cutoff to middle sister trail/summit snowshoes are really needed, there were bare boot postholes that made it difficult, drifts that even snowshoes were sinking in pretty deep. Heading over to Chocorua via middle sister trail, snow was soft, not firmly packed out, so snowshoes stayed on. We wore them all the way to the top of the summit, some bare rock at points but nothing that is worth taking shoes off and putting spikes on.
Enjoy the trail folks, snow coming this weekend will likely change conditions. |
