Used microspikes the whole way. Definitely recommend them on the climb up to Lambert's Ridge as the snow is not that deep and there are plenty of rocks poking out in the trail, which would make using snowshoes difficult. The snow is packed firm enough so that they aren't needed there. Once on the top of the ridge there was a fresh inch of snow that was untracked and the rocks mostly disappeared so snowshoes might be useful there. Same for the remainder of the trip. Going down Ranger would be good with snowshoes, but wasn't a problem with boots and spikes, either. Someone recently skied all the way down the Ranger Trail. |
