Well used & packed Piper trail the entire way to the top. Considered taking the Nickerson Ledge trail to Middle Sister. It looked covered in snow, not used. I did not want to cut new trail, still tired from climb the day before to Whiteface. Piper was a good choice.
Stopped by Camp Penacook Shelter, a short distance 250m steep climb from Piper trail. Rested there for snack & open views.
Did not take the short spur to exact peak of Chocorua: steep rock face was hard to climb in snowshoes, summit in the clouds no view.
Stopped at Jim Liberty Cabin on the Liberty Trail. Empty & clean. Nine bunk beds & picnic table. Toilet open nearby.
Most of the return trip on Liberty–Hammond–Weetamoo trails was on fresh deep snow. Not very difficult to find trail. |
