Comments
Comments: With high hopes three of us set out for the Lafayette loop, knowing that the windchill on the ridge might be too much. Beautiful hike up much of falling waters with a nice packed path from a few folks in front of us. As the trail got steeper the snow got deeper and it became a lot of work. The last stretch above the shining rock cutoff was broken just before us (thank you!) but still it was a slog. As we feared the wind at the top of Little Haystack was way too much to consider crossing the ridge, and it was also getting late (1pm) so we enjoyed a minute or two battling to standup straight, and then headed down. The fellow who broke the last bit of trail made a similar decision and passed us soon after we headed down. We continued to pack down a solid trail for those coming after us. Met a few folks in both directions, going up, one coming down who turned around after his gloves became soaked, going down a few folks coming up in spikes. Beautiful sun on the way down, cloudy on the way up.
