Enjoy feeling morally superior? Like going to the bar after a good hike feeling like you did a good deed? Then you should wear snowshoes on this trail!
When we arrived at the trailhead, we immediately put on our snowshoes given that the trail was an absolute mess. We were accompanied by another guy wearing snowshoes as well! We passed three couples on the trail wearing only micro spikes, who were all slipping, sliding, and potholing. Not only that, all three couples did not let us pass as we were ascending steep uphills.... Maybe they are all new to hiking and do not know the trail right of ways? Obviously, we were not going to push them off the trail given that they would have sunk a foot into the snow. Instead, we chose to judge them as we noted that not a single one of them was carrying snowshoes with them!!! And, to top it all off, we found a protein bar wrapper on the trail as we descended. Tisk tisk.
All jokes aside, this was an amazing winter hike, and we love our fellow winter hikers (or at least most of you)! The trail is packed down somewhat from the three snowshoers today, and I would highly recommend snowshoes for the next few days- or at least have them with you as an option. If you wear micro spikes, you will be slipping and sliding given the looseness of the snow. Happy trails! |
