Comments
Comments: Everyone got to enjoy a bright, sunny & windless hike today!

FWT was hard packed with some scattered but avoidable post holes. Micro spikes were sufficient except for a couple short, steep, slippery sections where crampons would have been better. I was too lazy to switch over.

Spur to Shining Rock was heavily post holed.

FRT was hard packed with lots of post holes and some exposed rock. Micro spikes were ok. Snow shoes would have been awkward.

GRT had one set of postholes and one set of snow shoes. I used trail crampons and only post holed a 3 or 4 times.

GLT was a mess. I kept my trail crampons on until treeline and switched to micro spikes for the remainder of the hike out.

OBP was hard packed and could be bare booted except for several long sections of slick snow where folks had butt sledded.
