Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Blueberry Ledge Cutoff down low was unaffected by Irene, slight increased erosion on the upper steep area. Blueberry Ledge in good shape. Lots of man hours in those stone steps! Rollins had some mud, roots & eroded ledge mixed in with nice footbed. I did some minor blowdown and debris clearing but (I think it was on this trail)there is one good dized duckunder that will require axe or big saw. Dicey's Mill had running water in the usual spot and lots of small dugouts from small falls formed as the water ran down the trail over roots or rocks. Walden and Wonalancet showed some new erosion in their steep ledgey (and slippery) areas, and I took out a lot of small blowdown, but their nice footbed sections were great. Overall there aren't a lot of waterbars but they are still functioning; I kick cleaned a few.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The mighty tough little dog had fun. Pepper loves the Blueberry Ledge cutoff brook - fine dippin. It was pretty dry after that except for a welcome spring shortly below Whiteface, and then running water over at Dicey's Mill. He was very happy to dip in the brook at the bottom of Wonalancet after hearing it below for awhile. I had just enough water for him in the dry stretches because the cool weather and shaded trails were perfect for a little black dog. We didn't see any other dogs today.

Comments
Comments: It was a perfect day for hiking. We pretty much had the trails to ourselves except on Passaconaway where we chatted with a few guys. After seeing Dicey Mill's erosion I decided to see how Walden and Wonalancet fared, and maybe do some cleanup. There was a fair amount of dead stems and branches on them which were easily removed, and some new stuff that needed sawing. Each has a couple of steep sections which were eroded to wet ledge which were a bit tricky going down. The Hibbard lookout made for very pleasant break. The section of Kelley trail is a fun fast walk out to end a great hike.
