Comments
Comments: Fun suffer filled adventure on the Cohos today. Broke trail most of this hike through soft south facing powder. Snowshoes sunk 2-12” for duration. Only other prints were post holes going up Victor Head and Zporter’s lone snowshoe track on S Percy spur from a few days ago. At 2000’ on the Percy Club trail I ran right into an enormous logging machine that was crossing the trail leaving a vast swath of destruction. It was a real wild sight to witness out in the middle of nowhere right under a scenic peak. they had created another new skid trail a few minutes prior that crosses the trail also. All three spurs were very steep. Victor head was the least steep and easiest to follow. South Percy would have been brutal trail breaking and tough navigationally- I was extremely glad to have a good lone snowshoe track to follow. Rowell Link’s east side had a crazy section of extremely heavy, fresh moose activity. There was no clear path I saw to go up Bald so i went roughly .1 past the 3-way intersection and whacked straight up the mountain. Extremely steep, but the north facing slope had supportive snow so I finally wasn’t punching through deep. Amazing views from all three peaks. Bald Notch trail was pleasant walk out and road walk was a road walk. The lower 1.7 miles of summer club and lower 1ish miles of BNT are both well-travelled snomo trails so conditions were fast and easy but plenty of snowmobiles in the afternoon.
