Threat of snow squalls and whiteout conditions led us to decide only to get Carter Dome today instead of all the Carters. Would recommend spikes for 19MB until the junction with Carter Dome Trail. It’s a small amount of snow over ice, and snowshoes honestly don’t make much sense down low. From that point onward, though, snowshoes are definitely the way to go. Almost everyone we saw today were wearing them except one couple who went up only in spikes. The new snow from Friday is very light and powdery with decent drifting especially after the intersection with Carter Moriah Trail. It’s a waste of energy NOT to wear snowshoes. Trail is in generally good shape otherwise. Only a couple post holes and nothing too terrible. |
