Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked in the designated lot off Ravine Lodge Rd. Signage asks people to park at an angle. Can fit at least 10 cars. There is no place to turn around at the gate if lot is full. Ravine Lodge road was well plowed and simple to drive (it is normally a dirt surfaced road) in two wheel drive. The first gate is locked but the road is plowed all the way to the bunkhouses.

Comments
Comments: Out and back to Moosilauke summit using Ravine Lodge Rd and Gorge Brook Trail.

The road is barebootable as it is plowed.

Gorge Brook is not blazed but is simple to follow as there is a well established trench. Due to a blister on my heel, I elected to use micro spikes from the start of the trail to the summit. Snowshoes would have been more fun… *sigh* There are no postholes and the trail is nicely covered in a shallow layer of fresh powder.

There is a substantial amount of ice once emerging out of the scrub near the summit. Micro spikes did just fine (and dull ones at that).

I got to put on my snowshoes once back down into the scrub and man did I fly! Oh I love the sound of that powder flying off the shoes! I could have used spikes to go back as well as the temps were still below freezing and I wasn’t postholing. But I wanted to use snowshoes. ‘Cause I love them!
