Comments
Comments: Wore snowshoes to Madison Hut. There was 3 to 5 inches fresh snow up to about the Valley Way tent site area, then 8 to 10 inches plus in the upper part of Valley Way. Some snow drifts were above my knees in depth. One hiker was ahead of me and just wearing traction, so there were some deep postholes at higher elevations on Valley Way. I changed into Hillsound Trail Crampon Pros at Madison Hut. There are some drifts on Osgood, Gulfside, and Airline, where I postholed. Most of my tracks were drifted over by the time I back came down. Otherwise mostly rocky and icy with some hard packed snow on these trails. Exhilarating hike! Measured wind speeds to just over 39 mph and windchill down to -29F on both Madison and Adams. I put my snowshoes back on for the descent on Valley Way.
