Oof, this was a workout. Snowshoes round-trip were essential and if you go here, you will definitely need them.
Bear Notch Rd. had a fair amount of snowmobile traffic, so I snowshoed off to the side. The 2.2 mi. walk to Attitash Trail is gradual and it took me an hour each way.
I broke out Attitash Trail in about 6-8 in. of powdery snow, with some deeper drifts. I could still see what I presume to be zporterColdRiverCampCook's drifted-in snowshoe track. The steep upper ledge sections took some care in spots due to ice under the snow. Even though I had gravity on my side, the descent still felt like I was breaking trail as the snow was very soft.
I went as far as the main ledges and skipped the short side trip to the true summit. I took a couple of photos and then retreated due to the wind and cold. |
