Made a mistake of not bringing snowshoes. It was fine in spikes for the first 1.5 miles or so. Only one person barebooted on the trail ahead of us and, after a recent snowfall, it was becoming harder to walk through deeper powdery snow in spikes (no grip, lots of slipping and sliding). We decided to turn back after about 2.4 miles.
We saw lots of animal tracks, and enjoyed a long lunch stop on one of many view points, so it was overall still very pleasurable hike.
