 | Comments: |
Wish there had been more snow today. A lot of the snow has been melted by the recent rain. Conditions were a little snow over ice in a lot of places on Jewell trail. Above treeline it was a mix of snow, ice, and dry rock. Snowshoes went for a free ride. Wore microspikes from car to treeline. Changed to mountaineering crampons and kept them on above treeline and back to the car. Wore crampons all the way down, because there was enough ice hiding underneath the thin layer of snow that made me worry about a possible fall coming down. Everyone else I saw on trail had just microspikes though. I can be a little overly cautious. It was a great day above treeline. The only tricky part was a few spots on Jewell when you come out of treeline. Seeing some of the cairns can be a little tricky, which made me have to spend more time on navigating the trail then when I was on gulfside or the jefferson loop trails. |
