Comments: Son borrowed my car and I left my crampons in it. That was a mistake. The beaver brook trail is an ice flow and if you slip in many places, you are royally screwed and you'll drop 20+ feet right into the icy river. The way up it was raining and wasn't too bad in microspikes. We didn't bring snowshoes based on my partner doing Moose they day before, but definitely was a mistake. As soon as we turned left onto asquam, we were postholing, really exhausting, even though it's a really short section. The two times I've left my snowshoes in the car this winter, I've deeply regretted it.

It seems like the summit of Jim is right on the trail, but I still followed the herd path a short way into the woods after crossing what seems like the summit, just to be sure.

By the time we started descending the rain had turned into wet sticky snow. A thin layer of snowballing snow on top of the ice flow made a sketchy situation even worse. Now the ice was hidden and my traction was basically gone. My parter had crampons and no issues at all. Someone else had descended without traction, so there were some nice frozen postholes off the side of the trail on some of the sections. But there were two sections where I just had to clean my spikes the best I could and pray. I definitely would advise against going up, and especially down without crampons.
