Peaks
Peaks Wildcat A, Wildcat B, Wildcat C, Wildcat D, NH
Trails
Trails: Nineteen Mile Brook Trail, Wildcat Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Tuesday, March 15, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Lot had been plowed, but there was a snow bank from the last small storm that I was able to punch through with my subcompact (with snow tires). But it’s snowing again tonight.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Blue, Snow - Wet/Sticky
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction, Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Big ones have wooden bridges. The small ones along 19MB are losing their snow bridges, but are hoppable
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Several blow downs, most need limbing. Most were on 19MB, one was on the south side of Wildcat C.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: My dogs had no problems, even where I was using crampons. I guess there’s something to be said for four wheel drive. Smaller dogs may need some help, or dogs with short toe nails.
Bugs
Bugs: Snow fleas!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Some trash, some post holes. The former I carried out, the latter I tried to demolish.

Comments
Comments: 19MB was fine for spikes, or even bare boots for descending. Wildcat Ridge up from the hut area has some ice that may need traction better than micros. I went up in my snowshoes which do not have super aggressive traction. Tubbs flex VRT or ALP would be better suited, or crampons. The ridge itself had 8-18” of sticky snow which two folks in spikes had traveled the day prior. With the snow being heavy and sticky, this was not super fun to snowshoe through. Better than breaking it myself ... maybe. There was ice on the south side of Wildcat C, I used crampons.
