| Water Crossing Notes: |
All crossings on 19 Mile are fine. I killed tons of snow bridges on the way out on North Carter Trail and Imp. After going in the fifth time, all attemps of self preservation went out the door. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There are a few blowdowns on 19 mile, Carter Dome Trail, a pretty good gnarly group on N. Carter Trail near the top out on the ridge of C-M. All are hand saw worthy a spring run through will take care of. North Carter got a haircut a few years back for summer travel not winter, I was in the trees at 5'3. Low on Imp by Cowboy Brook crossing, the drainage could greatly benefit from cultivator work. |

A FINE day in the forest. This finished NH48 round #10 for me and March 48/48! One of those days you can quite literally check off almost every box for trail conditions. Spring has arrived, and delightful spring conditions are about a month ahead of years past. These conditions are from this morning to this afternoon. They change, RAPIDLY. Was nice to rocket up 19MB with Sidehill and Poptart to start the day! Started on 19MB, which in retrospect, spikes from car where the way to go. Trail to the junction of Carter was hard packed ice highway. From Carter Dome Trail junction to the junction of Wilcat Ridge Trail, it was still good going but less consolidated. Minor rototilling. No issues at the larger crossing at 3200, or any water issues around the pond. I greatly benefited on my ascent of Carter Dome by a group of 8 glisadding down it and created steps for me. It is a mix of deep snow, bare rock, and blue ice. After Pulpit Rock, pleasant and firm conditions persisted until just before the Dome. That's when the fun began. Thankfully the summits got socked in, because if they where subjected to the strong March sun, it would have been even worse. The snow got softer from CD to Zeta Pass, after this and continuing to about halfway down North Carter Trail, its a chopped up post holed wasteland. Its really bad. I wore spikes the entire day, the trails are in varying states of decay. Snowshoes would not have helped as the trough is single track bare boot. It's just pole hole roulette all day. Thankfully N Carter and Imp are largely snow covered still, and not running rivers as usual. Coming down Imp, there is a sharp cutoff at 2125 where the snow just disappears until about 1800 feet, where ice returns. I love cheap thrills so I went full send and barebooted it. NO SPIKES NATION! Took FR385A back to the car. Red Fox to celebrate with Sidehill and Poptart, who also finished their March 48's on the Wildcats (sounds like their experience along the ridge is the same as mine on C-M |
