With such a long stretch without the snow setting up, the snow is extremely rotten. With no tracked vehicles up on the mountain in the past few days, there isn't really a packed route at this point. As a result, each step is a question of will the snow be supportive or not. Snowshoes still very much needed, but tedious nevertheless. Still some skiing to be had, but not top-to-bottom at this point.
The double chairlift side of the mountain is patchy down low, with more consistent snow cover above the first few hundred vertical feet. Waterbars and seeps open. The triple chairlift side is more melted than not, with plenty of muck and running water. Patchy deep snow in the woods up high.
Had I known conditions would be this nasty, I wouldn't have bothered. Shoulder season at its finest! |
