Comments
Comments: Spikes the whole way. Snowshoes went for the ride. Hit the trail at 7 to get to Wildcat D by 8:30 before the lifts opened. Ungroomed ski trails (Catnap and Stray Cat) were a bit bare at the base but mostly hard packed snow. Groomed ski trails (Upper, Middle and Lower Polecats) were like walking in loose sand in the early morning and got sticky near the base before noon on my return. Wildcat Ridge Trail was all hard packed snow with some ice. Many postholes, but easy to avoid. A half inch of snow fell in the morning to hide some of the ice. Hillsounds worked well, although light crampons would have been helpful on a few of the steep icy sections between Wildcat D and C. I was the only one on the Ridge today, unless others came up NMB in the afternoon.
