 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Drakes Brook at start was avoided by crossing bridge on Route 49, and bushwhacking back to trail. Drakes Brook crossing from Drakes Brook trail required rock hopping further down the main crossing and I'm glad I brought my poles. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Two chainsaw blowdowns after the crossing of Drakes Brook and another two chainsaw blowdowns after Noon Peak. Hikers are hurdling over these. Another large blowdown further down Drakes Brook Trail where it could be sawed, hikers are going around it. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
No dogs seen. Wouldn't recommend bringing one up Sandwich Mountain Trail. |

 | Bugs: |
None. |

A nice hike to Sandwich Dome. Used Hillsounds Spikes all day. I ascended steadily through mixed woods on a mix of drifted powder covering granular ice, clear ice and blue as I entered the Sandwich Range Wilderness, reaching a large boulder after 1.1 miles. The trail then became very steep and rugged where a couple of pitches was basically an ice chute and I wished I had more aggressive traction. There is approximately 1" of fresh powder in some sections covering many icy spots throughout. With todays winds and low temps it was full on winter conditions! Did not see anyone today. It was a wonderful SPRING day in the Mountains!!! |
