Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Many water crossings on Pine Bend Trail. No snow bridges, but all were rock hoppable. The first three needed a little bit of searching to find the best spot to cross. Rocks were slick and icy. Don’t try it without poles!

Comments
Comments: Tuesday was very cold and windy, but this made the snow very firm and perfect for spikes. Snowshoes not needed because the snow was so hard and packed. Warmer temperatures will change this. It was full winter conditions. Heading up the steep section, there is an inch of fresh powder covering the ice. The trail is very narrow in areas with a steep drop off on the left, heading up. Care is needed in this section. The final push to the ridge is very steep and icy. More aggressive traction is helpful. I switched to Hillsound Trail Crampon Pro’s for the descent due to the ice, but sharp spikes would work. Hugged a lot of trees! This would not be a good beginner hike in these conditions. Saw only one other hiker all day. No views on the summit of Middle due to the clouds that cleared up on our descent.
