 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
York Pond Rd. is in decent shape. Plenty of parking available at the trailhead. Gate was open and I was the first vehicle in the lot when I arrived shortly before 8:00AM, 4 vehicles when I left around 11:30AM. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The one larger crossing was open and running good but not overly difficult. There are a couple ways to make it most of the way across on submerged rocks, then you may need to dunk a foot or two past the ankle. The other smaller crossings were easy hops. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Nothing new, just the two large blowdowns that have been mentioned on here. One on Bunnell Notch Trail just before the junction of Killkenny Ridge Trail and the other not much further on Kilkenny Ridge Trail. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
None seen but a good hike for dogs. |

 | Comments: |
Trails from the start was mostly hardpacked snow/ice, very few sections not covered and not very muddy. Carried snowshoes but spikes were all that was needed. Even with the warm temps the trails were supportive.
A light mix of rain and large wet snow was falling most of the time I was on the ridge, very little if any accumulation. Seems that it rains/snows every time I've done Cabot (or is it I only do Cabot in the rain/snow?).
I only crossed paths with three others. Nice talking with Andrea, Kathy, Brian. |
