Trail Report for Shaw, Black Snout and Big Ball...
We went up Shaw which had a very challenging water crossing at 1.5 miles. We saw a couple people fall in. Some went further up, which was challenging in itself, but the crossing was a bit easier, but not much.
The trail was very steep until the junction of Shaw and Snout. The last 0.7 miles to Shaw had snow, but didn't put on our spikes till we summited, because we were told we would need them for Black Snout.
Stunning views from Shaw. The layers of blue were beautiful.
Heading over to Black Snout was pretty easy, but crap getting down the first 0.5 miles toward Big Ball took BIG BALLs. We had taken off our spikes, but needed to put them on again pretty quickly for a bit. There were a few sketcy sections right off the bat. Phew, glad we made it ???????
Had to head up to get to BB, no spikes, but had to difficult scramble to avoid the side of ice that was the trail. (Difficult for me, because I'm old????).
From BB, the trail was easy. A ton of open Ridge. We missed our turn for about 0.1 of a mile. I'm glad I had my Alltrails navigation as you could easily go down the wrong side.
The loop was 8.2. If I were to do it again, I'd probably go the opposite way.
Overall, beautiful day
