 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Had no trouble driving on Barnes Rd. Half the lot was fine the other half was a little slushy with mud. Saw two cars on arrival at 12pm. And another two on departure at 4pm. Saw one car parked right at the trailhead.. didn't think that was an actual spot. That area was partially flooded so not a good idea to park there anyways. |

Don't attempt without microspikes. No joke. Met two groups of people who had to turn around, including a family with small children in galoshes! Don't be deceived.. The trail starts out wet and muddy. Then dries out beautifully. Then starts to get icy and it's quite fun dodging the ice. But then, just after the midpoint, microspikes are inevitable and it would be reckless to continue without them. The trail is completely covered in ice from that point until the summit scramble. That is dry and spikes come off. But there is a fair amount of trail that looks like a frozen waterfall of ice coming down the trail. Lovely views. Just went to South Peak today. |
