Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Approximately five or six of the new log steps/waterbars installed in the last year or so are showing signs of early failure. They are undermined or frost heaved and no longer functioning. They are all within the first 1/2 mile of trail, where it diverts off the old logging road grade. There is one other one, approximately 0.8 miles up from the trailhead that also is undermined/washed out about 2 feet on one side

Comments
Comments: A FINE day was had in the forest. A quick one today. The trails are in pretty decent shape. Its a mix of dry trail and mud to about 2500, from 2500-2800 it becomes a mix of mud and increasing snow. At 2825 I put on spikes, and they remained on until this point upon return. Once the trail enters the coniferous section, it becomes an absolute drag strip thats ripe for speed. It should be noted, for about 50 feet before and probably 150 feet after the spring, there are some absolutely impressive blue ice bulges/flows. Totally wild. I went up and down them as they had a little bite, but there is an obvious track above them. Great views from the Starr King lookout. No issues along the ridge line, softening snow but that was to be expected. Still very, very firm. Enjoyed an early lunch from the Waumbek lookout past the summit. Speedway conditions persisted on the way out. My first sub 3 hour Waumbek! and a 12/12 to boot. 21 left! Irving gas station pizza on the way out was divine as always. Pretty bad when the ladies recognize you when you walk in :)
